Understanding common media formats

File extensions tell you how media is stored and which apps are likely to open it.

JPEG / JPG

JPEG is widely supported and efficient for ordinary photographs. It is a good default for many downloaded images.

PNG

PNG is commonly used when crisp graphics or transparency are important. PNG files can be larger than comparable JPEG photos.

WebP

WebP is a modern image format designed for efficient web delivery. Most current browsers can open it directly.

MP4

MP4 is one of the most widely supported video container formats and works well across browsers, phones, editors, and media players.

Preview before downloading

For multi-item posts, the file extension alone will not tell you which photo is which. Veyra's large preview and thumbnail picker are intended to make that selection obvious before you click Download.
